During the Zhongguancun Forum 2024, Quarraisha Abdool Karim, President-Elect of The World Academy of Sciences accepted the SFC reporter’s interview where she talked about the huge benefit brought by digital technology advances in her research field.

Quarraisha expressed that with digital advances, she is able to do things that used to take months and years within days, or even hours now. Instead of just taking a shot in the dark and hoping it works, she can count on the large model of AI to be her 24-hour assistant.

However, Quarraisha is still worried about the challenge that are the large inequalities in the world within countries and between countries. She considers that we need to ensure all of humanity benefits and moves forward no matter where we are in the world. “This is the dream and the possibility that I think science brings,” she pointed out.
